Trump Announces $14.5 Billion Deal Between Etihad, Boeing, and GE

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that the United States and the United Arab Emirates have made over $200 billion in deals.

According to the White House, one of the major agreements includes a $14.5 billion deal between Boeing, GE Aerospace, and Etihad Airways.

The White House said that Etihad Airways agreed to spend $14.5 billion to buy 28 airplanes made in the U.S. by Boeing. GE engines will power these planes, the Boeing 787 and 777X models.

Etihad Airways has not yet responded to questions about the deal, and neither GE nor Boeing has made any public comments.

“With the inclusion of the next-generation 777X in its fleet plan, the investment deepens the longstanding commercial aviation partnership between the UAE and the United States, fueling American manufacturing and driving exports,” the White House said.

Etihad has a fleet of around 100 aircraft.

Etihad’s CEO, Antonoaldo Neves, said last month that the airline plans to add 20 to 22 new planes this year. The goal is to grow its fleet to over 170 planes by 2030 and support Abu Dhabi’s plan to strengthen its economy in different areas.

Etihad, which is owned by Abu Dhabi’s $225 billion wealth fund ADQ, went through several years of restructuring and changes in leadership. However, the airline has been growing since Neves took over.

He said that 10 of the new planes this year will be Airbus A321LRs, which Etihad introduced on Monday and will start flying in August. The rest will include six Airbus A350s and four Boeing 787s.

On Wednesday, Boeing landed its biggest deal for widebody

During President Trump’s visit to Qatar, the country’s national airline, Qatar Airways, ordered 160 airplanes with the option to buy 50 more. The deal’s total value is $96 billion, according to the White House. (Reported by David Shepardson and Costas Pitas, edited by Deepa Babington)
