Upwind Acquires Aegis for Tens of Millions to Expand AI Security

The acquisition comes just nine months after Aegis was founded. Following the deal, Upwind will launch Upwind AI Labs for Cybersecurity, a new research and development unit focused on protecting AI agents and AI-powered workflows.

Aegis was founded by Omri Limor and Saar Ankonina, former members of Israel’s Unit 8200. The startup focused on security challenges linked to AI infrastructure, particularly AI agents.

Upwind and Aegis had previously worked together through a strategic partnership. After several months of collaboration, Upwind decided to acquire Aegis and integrate its technology and team into its platform.

Limor and Ankonina will lead the new AI lab. The team will work on identifying new attack methods, detecting threats and developing security tools for AI environments.

The lab will initially have 12 developers and researchers from Aegis and Upwind. The company plans to increase the team to around 25 employees within three months and eventually reach about 35 employees.

Upwind was founded in 2022 by CEO Amiram Shachar and his former Spot.io colleagues. The company provides cloud infrastructure security technology that helps organizations detect and prioritize threats in real time.

The acquisition expands Upwind’s focus from traditional cloud security to emerging security risks linked to AI systems and autonomous AI agents.

Upwind recently raised $300 million at a valuation of around $3.8 billion, taking its total funding to more than $700 million since its founding.
