ZEST Security, a company that creates AI-powered cloud risk resolution platforms to eradicate enterprise cloud security threats at scale, said that it had raised $5 million in seed money from angel investors, Hanaco Ventures, and Silvertech Ventures.

ZEST was founded by former Israeli intelligence operatives Snir Ben Shimol, CEO, and Uri Aronovici, CTO. Its goal is to close the gap between detecting security threats and effectively mitigating them.

Using code and pre-existing controls, the startup’s platform offers pathways that offer both mitigation and remediation to get rid of cloud vulnerabilities and misconfigurations.

“In recent years, the focus has been on cloud risk identification, but what we now have is a ‘failure to remediate’ problem,” said Shimol. “We founded ZEST to solve a big challenge within a new market. By providing security teams with resolution paths –whether that’s mitigation using existing tools, or preventative remediation using Infrastructure as Code (IaC)–organizations can finally level the playing field with threat actors. Just three years ago, building a product like this wouldn’t have been possible. We have a unique opportunity to tackle this now by taking advantage of developments in GenAI and the rapid adoption of DevOps systems.”

Snir created the worldwide cyber security platform and services division at Varonis prior to starting ZEST. Next, in order to create the first AppSec OS, Shimol worked as a CSO at Cider Security. With over a decade of practical and executive expertise in cloud and product security, Aronovici has held prominent positions at major corporations such as Check Point Software and Akamai Technologies.
