FuriosaAI Closes $620 Mn to Expand AI Chip Production and Challenge Nvidia
Oct 29, 2026 | By Nguyen Minh

South Korean AI chip startup FuriosaAI has Closes $620 million in a Series D funding round, increasing its valuation to $2.9 billion. The new valuation is nearly four times its previous valuation of $735 million.
The funding round was led by US-based Infinitum Partners, with participation from Jericho Capital, Worldline Capital, Singapore-based QUDA Capital, and Abu Dhabi-based NeoFort Holding.
Funding to Support AI Chip Development
FuriosaAI develops neural processing units (NPUs) designed specifically for AI inference. These chips help AI systems process information and generate results after a model has been trained.
The company aims to provide energy-efficient alternatives to Nvidia’s AI chips, which are widely used in data centres. As demand for AI services grows, businesses are looking for hardware that can run AI workloads efficiently while managing power consumption.

RNGD Chip Production and New Development
FuriosaAI began mass production of its RNGD AI chip in January 2026. The company is also working with Broadcom on a third-generation AI accelerator.
According to the reported production plans, TSMC is expected to manufacture 20,000 RNGD chips in 2026, with production projected to exceed 40,000 units in 2027.
FuriosaAI has identified Samsung SDS and LG AI Research among its customers and partners. These relationships could help the company expand the use of its AI chips across commercial and enterprise applications.
Competition with Nvidia
The funding comes as technology companies and investors look for alternatives to Nvidia in the AI hardware market. AI inference has become an important area of competition as businesses deploy AI models across data centres and other computing environments.
FuriosaAI is positioning its chips around inference workloads and energy efficiency. However, competing with established chipmakers will require continued product development, reliable production, and wider customer adoption.
Challenges Ahead
Despite the funding and higher valuation, FuriosaAI faces several challenges. Its third-generation accelerator developed with Broadcom is not expected to reach the sampling stage until 2028. The company will also need to demonstrate that its chips can meet customer requirements and compete at the scale required by large data centres.
The Series D round provides FuriosaAI with additional capital to develop its technology and expand production. Its long-term progress will depend on product performance, manufacturing capacity, and its ability to win customers in a market dominated by established chipmakers.
